2015-12-15: Hi! You're probably here because you did a Google search for 'plus sized horseback riders' or you saw my content quoted elsewhere. There are a couple of things I'd like you to know.

I am still here! But I am living away from my horses and not riding often. I could tell you a lie and say that I am, but I have always endeavored to give you the truth here. As a result, I'm not feeling terribly motivated to write blog posts and I feel out of touch with the community.

I'd love for you to stay a while and look back through the archives. Visit the links listed below. We still have an active forum community and I post on the Facebook page from time to time.

I have tentative plans to try to get more involved in the horse world in 2016, and I will absolutely share whatever that adventure becomes with you, so keep checking back!

Straying Slightly...

I STARTED this mare 4 years ago 75lbs heavier... and got, oh, a half dozen rides on her, and then stopped riding (lost her dam and wasn't riding at all) for a year... during that year, it got into my head that a draft or draft cross was all I was suitable to ride... I literally felt sick to my stomach going up to the riding ring today... what if I am still too heavy? What if she buckles under my weight? What if I hurt her? My sister told me to shut up and get on. LOL It felt AMAZING. I'm all choked up... this is the closest thing I have to my Angel and I have been denying myself the permission to even get close to her and spend time with her because of the weight. RIDONKULOUS. NEVER AGAIN.

  2. Yeah, I am nearly 6' tall and she is about 14.1-14.2hh... just a weeny little thing. Tanky little girl though.

And yep, I am getting fitter - slowly but surely! I don't like to dominate the blog too much with talk of my weight loss, but I had to share this celebration. I am only disappointed that I haven't followed my own advice that I have been posting on this blog and ridden this horse before! She is a fun ride, sane as the day is long and doesn't try to jump out from under me like Bronwyn does. Very green still so lots to learn (she has had maybe a dozen rides over 4 years, lol), but a quick learner and eager to please like her dam and sire were - both of whom we owned and loved!

  3. Hi, please continue with your blog. It's encouraging and inspirational to more people than you know (including me, since I've been reading it for a while before I had the courage to comment.) I have a blog that I just started, and it is about the struggle to have a life with horses as well as a chronic illness that takes a lot of your energy away. And I'm also overweight, thanks to the meds I have to take to control my illness, so that doesn't help put me in the mood to go ride either of my 2 horses. At this point, I write the blog for myself, to track my own progress in coming out of the most recent episode of my illness, but as I continue to get well, I plan on having it focus more on the horses. I'd love for people to be able to reference your blog from mine (if that would be OK with you), but I don't know how to set that up, so that your blog would display in the margins of mine. Anyway, you can view mine (early, early stages, not good yet at all) by going to http://suzanne1564.wordpress.com It doesn't look too professional yet, like yours, but you've definitely provided inspiration for me to even go forward. We have different but overlapping themes. Good luck in your continuing work with your horses, and in continuing to create such a wise, aesthetically appealing, pragmatic, down-to-earth blog. It's great. Thank you!
